Hello all, just wanted to give a bit of an explanation for my ratings as, while many of them are straight forward, but there’s one or two ratings that may be a bit odd to read for people. All things will be based out of 10.
Overall is just that, based on an overall rating for how I felt the movie was for myself.
Acting is based on performance of people involved, from the main actors, to weird things that people in the background do.
Sound is based on soundtrack, sound effects, and things like that. If the movie uses things like the Wilhelm scream and so on.
Story points will be given on plot holes, how the movie flows, things of the like.
The most important, to me anyways, will be Rewatchability. I am well aware it’s not a word, but it’s super important to movies. How many times can I watch this movie? Can I throw it on again as soon as it’s done? Is it a once a year viewing? Every five years? Once a decade? For me, my favourite movie ever is Big Trouble in Little China, overall I wouldn’t rate it a 10, not by any means. BUT, its rewatchability is absolutely a 10, I’ve seen it well I’ve 200 times and don’t plan on stopping. Whereas a movie like the Last of the Mohicans would rate significantly higher in most areas, it’s rewatchability would likely Rank towards the low end of the spectrum, probably a 1-2. That’s not to say it’s not an amazing movie, but I don’t feel need to revisit it ever in my life.
I suppose one could relate rewatchability to “fun”. How much fun did I have watching this movie? Is it a movie I could watch alone, or better in a group? Things like that.
I’m sure there will be other additions of how I rate movies over the next little bit, once I get back into it, just wanted to give a baseline for everyone.
