Top 100 #??

As I said, I don't really have a definitive top 100 numerically, only a top 4 really. So the double question mark is mostly accurate.

For this, I picked 2015's The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials and I couldn't for the life of me tell you why. It's absolute drivel on every level, but I love it. I love all three of them, they're in my wheelhouse of books, as well as movies.

This sequel follows Thomas and his group of misfits survivors as they exited the Maze (spoilers for the Maze Runner, they run out of the maze) and are shocked to see what has happened in the world. There was a deadly virus that took the lives of billions of people, and the survivors were either "cranks" (weird name) or stuck living in a dystopian future.

Now, I won't get into the differences from the book series, written by James Dashner, I have read them and the differences are drastic. But this is just about the movies.

For the overall of the movie, I couldn't rightly put it any higher than probably a 7. It's decently generic, predictable and dumb at times. But it's written for 15 year olds, which I am at heart (and in my mind, probably). There really isn't anything special about this movie, or series even.

The acting is somehow worse than the overall, likely a 6. I would say that the best actor would be Aiden Gillen from Game of Thrones, but also stars Dylan O'Brien from Teen Wolf, Kaya Scodelario of Pirates 5 fame, Thomas Brodie-Sangster from that chess show...Queen's Gambit! And also has Giancarlo Esposito, who is cool, but I wouldn't say that I classify him as a good actor. Then there's my dream woman, Rosa Salazar. She can do whatever she wants and I'll watch it, and love it because of her. But I can't say that I love this movie solely based on her. This movie is definitely greater than the sum of its parts, because I find myself drawn to every character in this movie series. O'Brien has a charisma that I don't know is matched, he just seems like such a gem of a human. Brodie-Sangster has English charm, same with Gillen, and Scodelario is... fine. But they all come together and I love it.

The sound and music is ultra generic. I couldn't tell you much about it at all, outside of the screech that the cranks make is pretty blood curdling and I enjoy it. I'll give it a 7, because it fades into the background expertly.

Rewatchability is alarmingly high for me. I have it at likely an 8.5, if not higher. I am writing about this one because I watched it last night. I watched all three last night, and I started them at like 9, so I was up until 3:30 in the morning watching these movies. The only negative thing I will say is that the first one is a little rough to watch now. It's the weakest transition from book to movie to me and just isn't as good. Also, it has Will Poulter and, while I like him, I also kind of want to punch him in the face. I have since he was Eustace in the Chronicles of Narnia.

I dunno, I love these movies and, if you're looking for a movie to shut your brain off, or fall in love with Rosa Salazar with short hair, give them a go.
